Hanging Out with Xixi - Hangzhou, China

We made a special trip to Hangzhou, China to spend a night with my friend Xixi Chen. Katie Jurgenson was Xixi's mentor at Carlson this past year and introduced us thinking we may want to visit her while in China. We're so glad we did!

Despite a storm making our train 4 hours late (sorry Xixi and Mr.Chen!) we were rather peachy the whole time on our LONG 24 hour train ride. The only bummer was when they ran out of food . . .

Here's the hard sleeper train car. Remind you of barracks?? I knew we had experienced a lot of things during our travels when this sleeping situation seemed like a dream (remember the boat in Thailand?).

Xixi lives in the nicest neighborhood in Hangzhou with her mom, dad and grandma (below). Mrs. Chen cooked us an incredible traditional Chinese dinner when we arrived. The dining table was covered with delicious dishes - beef, pork, rice, vegetables, peanuts, etc.

There are many West Lakes in China but the one in Hangzhou is the most famous. It was easy to see why this beautiful lake attracts so many people!

The lotus were in bloom when we were there.

Xix took us to a great restaurant in the park for lunch.

The peacocks were out to impress while we were there.

It was a needed respite to stay in a real home. The Chen's were so hospitable - Xixi's grandma even told us that she hoped we would come back so she could make us dumplings for breakfast again :) Thanks for a great stay Chen Family!

Wow! I didn't know you actually made it to see Xixi. She is so sweet. I am so happy I could connect you with her. It makes the world seem so small.
