Paphos

We spent a lot of time hanging around the villa playing games, eating, swimming, etc. but you all know us well enough to know that we can't stand sitting in one place for too long... so we took the city bus into Paphos and spent the afternoon in the city.

We made a quick pit stop in a local grocery and just couldn't resist the beautiful watermelon display. We couldn't find any forks or spoons but we did find those little shovels you get at ice cream shops and simply went to town hacking up that watermelon ;)

The main site on the harbor is the Paphos Castle - a small and simple castle but with a fair amount of history.

Before heading back to the villa we stopped by Aphrodite's birthplace. Do you see that rock over my left shoulder? Well, that's it! That's where she was born :) We weren't actually sure when we got there which rock was the 'right' one so we just took pictures of all of them until we noticed multiple brides taking portraits with this rock in particular in the background haha

While to some extent a rock is a rock, is a rock - this particular setting with the crashing waves, setting sun and moon high in the sky really was spectacular. 

We just stood and took it in for a bit while the sun set.

We rented a car while in Paphos and took a short 1/2 day trip on Saturday with a few friends to see the Baths of Aphrodite on the north coast (we were staying on the southeast coast).

The baths were a bit of a let down - the 'baths'  were beautiful but not the grand grotto our tour book promised. The beaches however were incredible. I'm not usually a huge fan of swimming in the ocean but the water was sapphire blue and warm, just begging us to go for a swim. And I'm so glad we did.

We took off for London on Sunday afternoon. Posts on our adventures in Cornwall and memories from Kate & Lincoln's wedding are in the works.
