Huntington Lake, CA

If you've ever met Peter Allbright (Andrew's cousin) then there is no doubt in my mind you have heard about Huntington Lake. For Peter, Huntington is heaven on earth. He is OBSESSED with going up there and now we understand why :) The scenery is beautiful, the people are great and there's skiing just a short drive away.

Huntington is a 1.5 hour drive straight east of Fresno in the Sierra National Forest. Peter and the rest of the Fresno Allbright clan have been going up there for years. Lisa (Peter's mom) and Tom (Lisa's husband and our ex-step uncle??? hahaha) have a condo on the mountain and spend almost every weekend during the winter enjoying the snow and relaxation that can always be found up at the cabin. Below is a pic of Peter showing us the big hydro electric plant - I told you he loves everything about Huntington ;)

Both Lisa and Peter are volunteers with the Huntington Lake Fire Department, and these are their babies - two very cool fire trucks and an ambulance. They have some great rescue stories and some absolutely awful, heartbreaking stories from their work at the fire department. It's incredible to see how much Peter's face lights up talking about the department. He truly loves Huntington and being a part of the community up there.

The blue Toyota FJ doesn't belong to the fire department; that is Peter's. I just think it's pretty cool (and sort of ridiculous) and the greatest car for trekking up the mountain in the snow :) Below is the coolest toy the department has - an infrared laser camera. This thing is seriously powerful and really fun to play with. We came up with a game where one person has to put there hand print somewhere on the wall and the one with the camera has to find it as quickly as possible. You only have to put your hand on the wall for a second and the camera can pick it up with no problem. It was pretty addicting to play with.

Aside from hanging out with Peter and his girlfriend Sally (I love her!!) it was really nice to get to spend time with Lisa and Tom and get to know Sally's family a bit. We stopped by to pick her and her little sister up on Friday night in Fresno and then crashed her dad's 50th birthday party on the way back home - mostly just to get come of the cake Sally's mom made :)

Huntington has been on our list of things to do for over two years - now we can't wait to get back up there.
