Sunny Sussex

The last few days of our road trip before heading up to Ardingly for Kate & Lincoln's wedding were filled with a bit more sunshine and some great sights.

Based on a colleagues recommendation we made are way along the southern coast to the adorable little village of Fowey. We strolled the lanes, had ice cream and watched the boats go by.

But the highlight of Fowey (and possibly our whole UK trip!) was getting creamed tea in a nice little tea garden right on the water. For those of you who have not heard of or tried creamed tea - I'm really sorry that you've missed out on this delectable treat! Creamed tea consists of  tea, 2 scones, jam and (best of all!) clotted cream. Add it to your bucket list - you'll thank me later.

With full bellies we kept heading east towards Exeter where we spent the afternoon checking out the Exeter Cathedtral, Rougemont Castle, gardens and many shopping lanes.

On our way to Brighton, our last stop before heading to the wedding festivities, we saw an incredible castle from the highway and decided to make a detour - we're so glad we did! Turns our we had stumbled across the Arundel Castle in West Sussex.

The castle was founded on Christmas Day in 1067AD and has now been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 400 years. The Duke and his family actually still live there today!

The castle has two parts - a medieval tower (which is where the picture below was taken from looking out over the Sussex countryside) and the main house which is considered to have the most well-maintained interiors of all English castles.

We were giddy with excitement over our unexpected afternoon at Arudel - what a find! :)
