My Mentor and Friend Gailen

Back in 2003 I had the great fortune to meet Gailen Krug through her son Geoff - as you all know, Andrew and Geoff have been best friends since kindergarten.

The summer after freshman year of college I interned for Gailen at Waycrosse. After spending two summers at Waycrosse and countless hours over at the Krug's, Gailen became an incredible mentor and friend of mine

I never thought I'd have the chance to work with Gailen again given our move to CA, but life has a funny way of keeping important people connected to your life... We now work for the SAME company again! Gailen and her husband, Chris, will be in the London office while I am in the San Francisco office.

Needless to say, when we heard that Gailen would be in San Francisco for a few days we quickly got dinner on the calendar.

Last night the three of us had a spectacular evening catching up over a bottle of wine and delicious tapas at a nearby Spanish restaurant. It was so nice to exchange life/school/family/work updates :)

She told us a crazy story about searching for a flat in London....I'll give you the abridged version....

About a month ago Gailen viewed 15 flats around the London neighborhood her and Chris had settled on. After being underwhelmed initially by the flats available Gailen came upon the PERFECT flat - a beautiful, old flat with a balcony overlooking the park. It was ideal.

Now, in England landlords and renters negotiate the rental price and typically bid back and forth. When the Krug's initial bid was rejected they decided to do a Google search on the flat's owner. It turns out the owner, Jane Andrews, used to be Fergie's (the Duchess of York) dresser; however, when the royal family had to make budget cuts she was let go. Shortly after being let go, Jane Andrews attached herself to a wealthy British man named Thomas Cressman. She wanted to get married, he didn't. Her response - she beat him to death with a cricket bat and stabbed him in the heart with a knife.

By it gets crazier.....after touring the beautiful apartment Gailen discovered that while she was at the apartment Jane Andrews had escaped from the prison where she is serving a life sentence and was on the run!! What are the odds?!!? Freaky, right?!?!?

In the end, the Krug's decided to give up the perfect apartment - the back story was just too bizarre. They've now put in an offer on a different apartment and hope to sign a lease this week.

It was so great to see Gailen! The Krug's have been like another family to us and we always look forward to the next time we get see them - whether that be in CA, NY, MN or London :)

Wow! That is a fantastic story. It's so nice that you got to see Gailen. We loved the Krug's when we met them at your wedding. Geoff was fun to walk down the aisle with. What a great family!
